Joseph T. "Joel" Hartley was the eldest son of William H. and Fancy Taylor Hartley. He was born in 1822 in Copiah County, MS. He married a Choctaw Indian Lady (supposedly from around Utica, MS) and had 11 daughters and twin sons. Joel left MS after killing a man over a turkey shoot. One of his daughters maybe married a man name Curtis. They had a son named Newton and lived in Bastrop, Louisana. Later Newton went to Springhill, LA. In the Bureau of Land Management Web Site there is a Joel Hartley in Copiah County Mississippi who got land from federal government on May 10, 1826 and a Joseph got land on 26 Dec 1826. In 1853, the Mississippi State and Territorial census lists a Joel T. Hartley with one male and four females in the household. In the 1860 census, they are in Ward 12, Morehouse, Louisiana. In the 1870 census, they are listed in Ward 1, Ouachita, Louisiana under J. T. Hartly.
Columbus Washington Ritche was the grandson of Joel and Susan Risor Hartley. He wass born 1875 and died 1952. His parents were William N. Richie and Joanna "Aunt Anna" Hartley. Ruth Louise McLain Stewart Windom passed away on Thursday, February 5, 2009. Beloved mother of Paul Stewart, Evelyn Lee, Calvin Windom and the late James Stewart and Linda Stewart. Sister of Joyce Roberts, Vernie Motherhead, Carolyn Chattellier, David McLain and the late Inell Warwick, James McLain and Bernice Freeman. Also survived by 7 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Age 74 years. A native of Madisonville, LA and a resident of Springfield, LA for the past 3 years. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Springfield. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral services on Sunday, February 8, 2009 at 2:00 PM from E.J. Fielding Funeral Home Inc., 2260 W. 21st. Ave., Covington, LA 70433. Visitation on Saturday from 6:00 PM until 9:00 PM and on Sunday from 12:00 PM until service time. Interment in Barker-McManus Cemetery.
