Brown—George

WRENTHAM—The Congregational church was the scene of a midsummer wedding Sunday afternoon at four o’clock when Miss Margaret Evelyn George, daughter of Mr and Mrs Walter H. George, South St., became the bride of Elton Winslow Brown, son of Mrs Ruby Brown, West St., in a double ring ceremony performed by Rev. Melville A. Shafer, pastor of the church. Prof. Howard Rushton played the Wedding March and Mrs. Hugh Marshall sang Grieg’s I Love You. The bride’s costume was of moire taffeta with finger tip veil and bouquet. The bride’s sister, Miss Ida G. George, was maid of honor, and wore pink satin and ribbon-band cap. The four bridesmaids, Misses Grace Winter, Beth Winter, Doris Brown and Eleanor Olsen wore blue satin and ribbon-band caps and all carried white and pink bouquets.

The best man was William Deane of Yarmouth, and the ushers were Francis Lemaire of Norton, Wilbur George of Hartford, Conn., George Winter and Verne Olson. The bride was given in marriage by her father, Walter H. George. The bride’s mother wore blue chiffon and white hat and the groom’s mother blue chiffon with blue hat. The church decorations were floral sets of white and green. The ceremonial was witnessed by 200 guests from Plymouth, Taunton, South Hanson, Boston, Hartford, Conn., Cambridge, New York, Brooklyn, Attleboro, North Attleboro and Wrentham.

Following the church ritual, a reception was held in the gardens at the home of Mr and Mrs Murray Winter, South St., where refreshments were served and the wedding cake was cut. Mrs Andrew Sherry, sister of the bridegroom, was official photographer. Miss Beth Winter was the winner of the bride’s tossed bouquet. After a brief trip to the White Mountains, the couple will occupy the George cottage on Lake Archer. The bride graduated from the Wrentham High School in ’39, the next year she took postgraduate work and then attended Gordon College. The bridegroom graduated from the local high school in 1933 and then attended Gordon College where he received the A.B. degree in theology this spring. He is acting pastor of the church in East Taunton while pursuing his studies.
